This set is an unauthorized copy of the original 1967 Leaf set. It comes with a certificate of authenticity which talks about these cards being manufactured in 1967 but never released due to copyright issues. It claims that the cards were shelved and then rediscovered in 1989. The unfortunate truth is these cards were not made in 1967 and were probably manufactured in 1989. The whole story was just a scam to make some money. However, most Star Trek card collectors do have a set of these in their collections, so they do have value. There are two easy ways to identify the European reprint. First, the cards are 1⁄8 inch smaller (length and width) than the original Leaf cards (21⁄4” x 35⁄16” vs. 23⁄8” x 37⁄16”). Second, if you look at the European cards on edge, they are solid white. The original Leaf cards have a gray layer sandwiched in the middle (white – gray – white). Also, the European reprint images aren’t as sharp. These cards are listed as 1967 because that is the date on the cards and if I listed them as a 1989 reprint set they would be hard to find in the set lists for newbies to the hobby. There was also a reprint set that was properly marked as a reprint on the backs of each card in 1981. | |||||
